Rural meets urban, by Tom Mukasa

Rural meets urban

The distant hum and thud,
The knock, knock on wood,
The cooing of a lone pigeon,
The rushing lap of winged formation,
The brush of rubbing leaves and twigs,
The rapturous sound of speeding vehicles,
The pat-pat drips of melting icicles,
The vibrating baritone of a running generator,
The whirl of a chainsaw,
The air hungrily breathed,
Fuel on these sojourns soloed,
Pungent irritant fumes,
Invisible propane, ethanol and redox plumes,
Incessant moving machines and vehicles zoom.
